  • 🏡Background Introduction: The Secession Building (German: Secessionsgebäude) is an exhibition hall located in Vienna, Austria. It was completed in 1898 by Joseph Maria Olbrich as a statement of the Vienna Secession movement, a group of rebellious artists who broke away from the established art institutions of the time. The building is characterized by the Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt, one of the most widely recognized artworks of the Secessionist style (a branch of the Art Nouveau movement, also known as Jugendstil in Germany and Scandinavia). The construction of the building was sponsored by Karl Wittgenstein, the father of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
