- Background: The F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American single-engine, supersonic multirole fighter aircraft. Initially designed as an air superiority day fighter, it has evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Since its inception in 1976, over 4,600 units have been produced. While the United States Military (USAF) no longer purchases the aircraft, upgraded versions are still being manufactured for export.
Key features of the Fighting Falcon include a frameless bubble canopy for improved cockpit visibility, a side-mounted control stick for easier maneuverability, and an ejection seat reclined at 30 degrees to reduce the impact of G-forces on the pilot. It was the first aircraft to use a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system, enhancing its agility. The F-16 is equipped with an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and has 11 hardpoints for mounting weapons.
