- 🗼Background Story: New York City is home to many ultra-luxury residential skyscrapers, most of which located around the southern end of Central Parkin Midtown Manhattan, forming the so-called "Bilionaires' Row'". Among these buildings, five of them are in the super-tall category - taller than 1000 feet (300 m)- and are pencil towers: tall, thin and with a very high slenderness ratio. From the East to the West, we find 432 Park Avenue, 53W53, One57, and Central Park Tower. The Blilionaires' Row is known for containing some of the most expensive residences in the world: the top penthouse at 432 Park Avenue went to Saudi retail magnate Fawaz Al Hokair for $87.7 million, while the top two floors of One57 were sold to businessman Michael Dellfor $100.47 million. Regardless the astonishing costs of their apartments, these skyscrapers are engineering masterpieces made possible by improvement of the building materials (high-strength concrete and steel), and by using special techniques - such as tuned mass dampers - to manage building movements caused by wind.
