The overall colour scheme of brown and club colours, with the classic Christian spire design, perfectly reproduces the building itself. It is the fourth most important Christian pilgrimage site after the Dome of the Rock (Jerusalem), Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and St Peter's Basilica (Vatican).
- ⛪Background: It is one of the oldest churches in Europe, built by order of Charlemagne, who was buried there in 814. From 936 to 1531, the Palatine Chapel saw the coronation of 31 German kings and 12 queens. Since 1930 it has been the main church of the Diocese of Aachen, and in 1978 the Cathedral of Aachen was built for its extraordinary artistry, its architecture, and its important place in the history of the Holy Roman Empire. After the canonisation of Charlemagne by the rival Pope, Passover III, in 1165, the chapel became an attraction for pilgrims.
