Los Angeles-class submarines are nuclear-powered fast attack submarines (SSN) in service with the U.S. Navy. 62 were built from 1972 to 1996 and they are named after American towns and cities, such as "New York City", "Dallas", "Boston", and "Los Angeles"which gives name to the class, being the first unit built and the lead vessel.
These submarines are 362 ft (110 m) long, 33 ft (10 m) wide, have a top speed of 35 knots (65 km/h), and a maximum diving depth of 1480 ft (450 m). They carry about 25 torpedo tube-launched weapons and mines, and the last 31 boats of the class also have dedicated vertical launching system tubes for launching Tomahawk missiles.
This MOC is a 1:125 scale model of a Los Angeles-class submarine, and includes a lot of details and features; it has easily removable hull panels so that you can show the interior of the vessel, accurately represented and explained on the building instructions.
Other features of this model:
- Openable vertical launch tubes for Tomahawks on the bow
- Horizontal torpedo launch tubes
- Mobile rudder and diving planes
The MOC also includes:
- Dry Deck Shelter (DDS) at the same 1:125 scale
- Seal Delivery Vehicle (SDV) and Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC) micro models
